Anatomy of a Custom Cap

Every part is a specification

A cap has more customizable components per square inch than any garment we make. Each one below is a line on your tech pack, not a factory default you inherit.

Panels & profile

5, 6, or 7-panel crowns in low, mid, or high profile the panel count and profile set the whole silhouette before any branding lands.

Crown structure

Structured (buckram-fused front panels that hold shape) or unstructured (soft, relaxed dad-cap slouch). The single biggest fit-feel decision.

Visor

Flat or pre-curved, with stitch rows, contrast underbrim, and sandwich-brim color options.

Closure

Plastic snap, fabric strap with metal buckle or tri-glide, Velcro, elastic, or fitted hardware in your finish, brandable.

Sweatband & taping

Cotton or wicking sweatband, printed or woven; interior taping in your brand color the premium interior buyers check first.

Button & eyelets

Matching or contrasting top buttons and embroidered or metal eyelets are the small details that separate custom from blank-plus-logo.

Materials

Fabrics and yarns we run

Material Character Best for
Cotton twill The cap standard crisp, embroidered sharply Snapbacks, dad hats, buckets
Brushed/peached cotton Soft matte hand, premium feel Dad hats, minimal branding
Washed / pigment-dyed Vintage, lived-in finish from garment washing Dad hats, retro drops
Corduroy Texture-forward, seasonal Snapbacks, buckets, dad hats
Wool blend/melton Structured, cold-season premium Snapbacks
Nylon/poly Technical, quick-dry, packable Buckets, sport caps
Terry/towelling Resort texture Bucket hats
Acrylic/wool knit yarns Knitted, not sewn rib and fisherman gauges Beanies (see note below)

Beanies are knitted, not sewn. A beanie comes off a knitting machine, not a sewing line: different equipment, different yarn sourcing, and a different minimum than sewn caps. 50-beanie MOQ: in-house knitting vs. vetted. We say this up front because it’s why beanie quotes and timelines read differently from snapbacks and why factories that pretend otherwise miss their dates.

Decoration

The crown and everywhere else

The front panel carries the hero mark, but a premium cap is branded in the places only the owner sees. Both columns below are done in-house on the same machines that run our apparel embroidery.

Crown decoration

  • Flat embroidery: the cap standard, tonal or full color

  • 3D puff embroidery, raised foam-backed lettering, the snapback signature

  • Chain-stitch hand-crafted vintage script look

  • Chenille patches varsity texture on twill and corduroy

  • Patches woven, leather, rubber, or sublimated and sewn or heat-applied

  • Side & back hits: small marks at the side seam and above the closure

Hidden-surface branding

  • Underbrim sublimated print or contrast colour under the visor

  • Sweatband printed or woven branding where only the wearer looks

  • Interior taping, seam taping in your brand color

  • Woven inside label plus size and care labelling

  • Closure hardware: engraved buckles, debossed straps, branded snaps

  • Hang tags & packaging retail-ready, crush-protected

MOQ & Pricing

Minimums, said plainly

  • MOQ is 100 pieces per style for sewn caps, snapbacks, dad hats, and buckets. Colorways can be split within it.

  • Beanies are quoted separately; knitting minimums differ from sewing minimums. We state it here instead of surprising you at the quote. 50 pcs MOQ.

  • Fabric and structure set the base: a washed-cotton dad hat, a wool-blend snapback, and a terry bucket hat are different cost classes.

  • Decoration count: front hit, side hit, back hit, underbrim, sweatband: each placement is itemized so you choose where branding earns its cost.

  • Order volume unit price steps down at 200 / 500 / 1,000 piece tiers.

  • Sample cost is credited against your bulk order. If the MOQ exceeds 200 pieces.

Common Questions

Yes, flat, 3D puff, chain-stitch, and chenille, digitized in-house and stitched on your actual cap fabric for approval before bulk production. Front, side, back, and underbrim placements all run.

Sewn caps (snapbacks, dad hats, and buckets) start at 100 pieces per style. Beanies are knitted rather than sewn, so they carry their own minimum 50 pieces beanie MOQ. We quote both honestly rather than average them.

Yes woven inside labels, printed size and care labels, branded interior taping, and printed or woven sweatbands. The interior is where premium headwear separates itself; we treat it as a branding surface, not an afterthought.

Structured (buckram-fused) crowns hold the classic snapback silhouette and photograph sharply; unstructured crowns give the relaxed dad hat slouch. It’s a style-register decision we’ll sample your logo on both if you’re deciding.

A one-size-adjustable one (snap, strap, or buckle closure) is the standard and simplest to retail. Fitted sizing in multiple head sizes is available with a size-curve minimum of 50 pieces.

Yes, ship the reference, and we reverse-engineer panel count, profile, structure, fabric, and closure and then confirm it all on a physical sample before bulk.

Yes, garment-washed and pigment-dyed finishes for the lived-in dad hat look, sampled on your actual color before the run so the fade level is approved, not accidental.

Yes, caps consolidate into apparel shipments from the same factory, matched to your drop’s colorways from the same dye standards. One shipment, one drop, one color language.

A vector file (AI, EPS, SVG) is ideal; a clean high-res PNG works. We digitize in-house and send a stitch-out photo of the real cap for approval.

50% deposit to book production, 50% before shipment; accepted methods: wire/Wise/bank transfer/TT/LC.
