Positioning

Four materials, sewn into one jacket

A varsity is four different materials joined into one garment body: sleeves, striped rib, and lining, each with its own supplier, behavior, and sewing requirement.

Joining a leather sleeve to a wool body cleanly is the technical test of the whole style, and it is exactly why the varsity separates real outerwear factories from fleece shops. We build it across the full price ladder so you can enter at wool-and-PU and step up to full leather without changing suppliers.

The two builds

Standard varsity vs. leather varsity explained

Same collegiate silhouette, two price registers. Here is how they differ so you can spec to your positioning and margin.

Build Body & sleeves Register Sampling/bulk
Standard varsity Wool or melton-body; PU (or genuine) sleeves; fleece body optional Accessible streetwear to mid-premium 07–10d / 5–7w
Leather varsity Full leather or wool body with genuine-leather sleeves, brass snaps, and quilted satin lining Premium flagship piece 10–15d / 6–8w

Run both as a ladder. Many brands carry the wool/PU varsity as the volume seller and a small full-leather run as the halo product identical patches and trims across both, so the range reads coherent while the price points do the segmentation.

Materials

Real or vegan leather

Genuine leather

Top-tier feel and durability that ages beautifully. Higher cost, higher minimum, and longer lead the flagship choice.

Vegan / PU

Lower cost, animal-free, and easier to keep consistent across a run. The volume-friendly choice.

Wool + leather sleeves

The traditional collegiate look melton body, contrast leather sleeves at a middle price.

Decoration & branding

Chenille is the main event

Chenille patches

Collegiate felt lettering, crests, and logos struck off physically for approval before bulk production.

3D & flat embroidery

On the body, sleeve, and full back, backed so the fabric doesn’t pucker.

Leather patches & debossing

Embossed logos on the leather panels; leather patches at the hem or chest.

Custom snaps & woven labels

Brass or matte snap fronts and branded neck labels finish the piece.

Placements are mapped on the PP sample so patches clear the pocket welts and the snap line a detail that separates a considered jacket from a busy one.

How to start

What to send us

The fastest quotes come from the clearest brief, but you don’t need a finished tech pack to start. Any of these gets us moving:

01

A reference or your own design:

A product photo, a sketch, a competitor link, or a full tech pack whatever you have. We fill the gaps and confirm them with you.

02

Your artwork:

Logos and graphics as vector files where possible, with Pantone references for exact color matching on trim cards.

03

Quantities & target price:

Rough per-color-weather volume and the landed price you’re aiming for, so we quote to your real economics, not a guess.

04

Your market & season:

Where it sells and when this drives fabric weight, lining, and the honest weatherproofing claim on your page.
Sampling, lead time & QC

From your tech pack to a run you can trust

Sampling

Tech pack → fit sample → patch/chenille strike-off → pre-production. 7–10 days for wool/PU, 10–15 for leather.

Lead time

Bulk 5-7 weeks for standard; 6–8 weeks for leather, where hide sourcing adds time.

Quality control

Each jacket is individually checked before packing.

Compliance

Cerfied and registered company.

What’s included

What every run includes

Tech-pack review or build-out. Send a tech pack or just a reference photo we spec the missing lines and confirm them with you before sampling.

Physical sampling. A real-fit sample in your fabric and color, plus a decoration strike-off, before a single bulk unit is cut.

Custom grading. Your size chart, or our house block graded to your reference not a fixed-size set you have to accept.

Branded labeling & packing. Woven or printed neck labels, care labels, hang tags, and polybag/box packing to your spec.

Checking. Every run is inspected against your approved sample before it ships, not spot-checked after the fact.

One point of contact. A solo operator who owns your order end to end, replies within 24 hours, and keeps your designs confidential.

Sizing & grading

Size Chest Length Sleeve
S 110 68 63
M 116 70 64
L 122 72 65
XL 128 74 66
Cut with layering ease over a hoodie in the same marked size how the style is actually worn and verified on the fit sample over the real mid-layer. Fully custom graded to your reference.
Care

Careful guidance you can lift onto your listing

Wool body: spot-clean or dry clean. Genuine leather: spot-clean and condition only; never machine wash. Vegan PU: wipe clean; machine-wash. The snap front avoids the zip failure that ages a cheap varsity. Care labels are printed with your branding.

Why GIBBEN CLOTHING

Why build this run in Sialkot?

Gibben Clothing is a cut-and-sew manufacturer based in Sialkot, Pakistan, one of the world’s densest apparel and leather-goods manufacturing clusters, the same ecosystem that supplies a large share of the world’s sportswear, gloves, and hand-stitched footballs. Sialkot is one of the world’s leather-goods capitals which is precisely why we can run this style with local hide sourcing, real leather-stitching capability, and honest QC on hide consistency.

On-the-floor QC. We inspect the fabric, the sample, and the run in person not over a portal. If something is off spec, it is caught here, before it ships to you.

Short sourcing loops. Fabric, trims, hardware, and decoration sit within a short radius, which is why sampling moves in days rather than weeks.

Honest by default. We spec how the garment is actually worn, and we won’t let your product page overclaim the reputation on the rack is yours, and we protect it.

Confidential. Your designs, tech packs, and artwork stay yours. NDA on request before you send anything sensitive.

FAQ Varsity

Buyer questions, answered

Genuine for a true premium feel and how it ages, at a higher cost, MOQ, and lead time. Vegan PU for affordability, animal-free positioning, and batch-to-batch color consistency. The price gap is real; we quote both so you decide with numbers, not vibes.

Same silhouette, different register. The standard varsity is a wool or melton body with PU or fleece options at an accessible price. The leather varsity is the premium build: full leather, or a wool body with genuine-leather sleeves, brass snaps, and a quilted satin lining with a longer, honestly scheduled lead time.

Yes, collegiate lettering, crests, and mascot work made to your artwork and struck off physically for approval before any patch is sewn. Chenille is the varsity’s identity, so we treat the patch as the main event, not an afterthought.

Yes, the striped rib on collar, cuffs, and hem is knitted to your colourway and matched to your Pantone references on trim cards before production runs.

Both. A full-leather varsity is the most premium; a wool/melton body with contrast leather sleeves is the traditional collegiate look and costs less. Same trims and patches carry across either build.

Hide sourcing and leather-grade QC. Genuine leather is a natural material with real variance, and consistency across a run takes selection time sampling runs 10–15 days and bulk 6–8 weeks. We build that calendar honestly instead of promising a date we can’t hold.

Practically, yes: local hide markets, generations of leather-stitching skill, and short sourcing loops mean we can select and QC hides in person. It is the same ecosystem the world’s leather gloves and footballs come from.
