Why this guide exists
Pockets fail in predictable places, so build for those places
When a customer returns a hoodie, the complaint is rarely the print or the fit.
It’s the pocket: the opening has gaped into a frown, the bag sags below the hem line, or a corner has torn clean away from the body.
All three failures come from the same root cause: the pocket was treated as a decorative patch instead of a load-bearing component.
On our sewing floor, the kangaroo pocket gets its own mini production sequence:
Cut, fuse, hem, press, position, edge-stitch, bar-tack.
Skip or cheapen any one of those steps and the pocket will still look fine on day one. It just won’t look fine on day sixty.
This guide walks through each stage of that sequence, in the order it happens on the floor, and finishes with the exact callouts to put in your tech pack so any factory ours or anyone else’s builds it the durable way.
If you haven’t built a tech pack before, start with our hoodie tech pack guide and come back; this article assumes you know what a callout page is.

This is the deep dive on one part of the build. For the full cut-and-sew journey panels, seam order, hood, ribbing, finishing, and how to judge a whole hoodie, read How a Hoodie Is Made. This page assumes that context and goes straight to the pocket.
