The Gibben Clothing Sourcing Blueprint

The weight is the whole pitch

A heavyweight sweatpant sells on hand feel before anyone reads a label. At 450-550 gsm, the fabric is the product, which means it has to be sourced at 450-550 gsm and hold that weight without the seams giving out or the pants twisting after a wash. We use loopback fleece, reinforce and gusset the seams, and garment-wash for a broken-in drape and to pre-shrink. This is where cheap sweatpants fall apart: heavy fabric on light construction fails fast.

This blueprint covers the build sheet, why GSM and garment weight are the real spec, loopback vs brushed-back, private-label options, sampling, cost drivers, MOQ and compliance, and sizing on the heavier block.

Buyer tip: quote by garment weight in grams, not just GSM. Two 500 gsm fabrics can finish 80 g apart depending on width and shrinkage. Grams is the number that reaches the customer.

Fabric & Construction

Loopback is why it drapes

Loopback (French terry’s heavier cousin) gives that dense, structured fall you can’t fake with a brushed back. At the same weight, the loops add mass and recovery. 450gsm is the accessible premium; 500-550gsm is the flagship, heirloom-feel weight. Cotton-rich blends keep the hand soft; a touch of poly stabilizes heavy loopback against twisting. Garment washing is non-negotiable at this weight; it pre-shrinks and softens so the customer’s first wash doesn’t change the fit.

Branding & Private Label

Make it yours, end to end

Heavyweight fleece is a canvas 3D puff embroidery and high-density prints sit beautifully on the dense surface. Add a woven waistband label, heavy metal-tipped drawcords, and pigment or enzyme washes for a lived-in, elevated finish. On a premium-weight pant, the wash and the cord tips do as much for perceived value as any logo.

Development & Sampling

From tech pack to bulk

The same seven-step path runs whether you order one silhouette or all four, and because they share a waist, samples for the whole family move together.

01

Send your tech pack, sketch, or a reference pair you like; if there’s no tech pack, we reverse-engineer the pattern from the sample.

02

We will quote within 24 hours based on your fabric weight, decoration, and target Incoterm and then confirm the spec in writing.

03

The proto sample was cut and shipped (7–10 days), so you can check the block, rise, and proportion on a real body rather than a flat drawing.

04

Fit + fabric sign-off: we grade the full size run to your measurement chart and match lab-dips to your Pantone colors.

05

Pre-production (PP) sample locks every seam, trim, and label; nothing enters bulk until you approve it.

06

Bulk cut, sewn, and finished (4–6 weeks), then QC inspected before folding, polybagging, and cartoning.

07

Ship FOB or DDP with your main labels, care labels, hangtags, and packaging already on the garment.

What Moves The Price

Why Source This With Us

Built by people on the floor

Anyone can buy 500gsm fabric; the skill is sewing it so it survives. We reinforce and gusset the seams and garment-wash every run so the pant that reads “premium” in the buyer’s hand still fits after ten washes.

Buyer questions

Yes, we source to spec and check finished garment weight in grams on the sample and in bulk quality control. We’ll confirm the exact achievable weight for your fabric and color before you commit.

Loopback: It gives the dense, structured drape a heavyweight that is worth it. Brushed-back at 500 gsm feels softer but flatter and can pill faster. We’ll send both if you want to feel the difference.

Heavy fleece shrinks and can twist. Washing before it ships pre-shrinks and relaxes the fabric so the customer’s first wash doesn’t change the fit and it gives that broken-in premium hand.

Yes, dense loopback is one of the best bases for 3D puff and high-density work. We stabilize the back so it stays crisp through washing.
