A tank has less fabric than any other tee which means the little that’s there carries all the perceived quality. And most of that quality lives in one detail: the armhole and neckline binding. A clean, even binding that lies flat through washes is what separates a retail tank from a gym giveaway. It’s also where cheap production visibly fails first.
This brief is built around that reality. It covers the three armhole finishes and when to use each, the cut differences between a gym block and a fashion block, decoration placement on a small canvas, and lower-impact fabric options for brands that need them.
Also inside: sampling stages, volume pricing, QC and compliance, the size chart, and the questions buyers ask before ordering.
On a tank, the armhole and neckline binding are most of the sewing and all of the perceived quality. Get it flat and even, and the tank reads retail; get it wavy and it reads “promotional.”
The most durable and cleanest retail finish is a folded binding that lies flat and survives washing. The default for a fashion or premium tank.
Adds stretch and a sporty feel to the athletic line choice, comfortable through movement and a natural match for gym blocks.
A deliberate cut-off look for streetwear muscle tees unfinished by design, controlled so it reads intentional, not unfinished.
Lighter fabric, deeper armholes, narrower straps built for movement and a performance read.
Heavier fabric, a boxier body, a more relaxed armhole built to wear as a piece, not just train in.
Tell us the positioning, and we spec the block to it. The same word (“tank”) covers two very different garments, and the block is where they part ways.
Confirm block, fit, and measurements. Armhole depth and strap width are locked here.
Print and embroidery proof on the actual fabric so opacity and hand are approved before the run.
Final combined approval of construction, decoration, labels before bulk cutting starts.
Watch a binding go on, and you understand why it’s the make-or-break detail. The tension has to be even the whole way round; too tight and it cups inward, too loose and it ripples. On a tee you’d never notice; on a tank the armhole is the silhouette, so every wave shows.
We inspect binding flatness specifically, not just as part of a general once-over, because it’s the first thing a customer’s eye lands on and the first thing that fails in a cheap tank after a few washes. A tank that still lies flat on wash ten is the difference between a reorder and a return.
The raw-edge muscle tee is its own discipline ‘raw’ still has to be controlled, or it reads like a mistake instead of a choice. We set the cut so it looks deliberate and holds.
Center chest and full back are the workhorses; small strap-adjacent hits work on standard cuts, and racerbacks open a strong back-panel placement. Lower-impact bases are available where a brand needs them.
Unit price steps down as quantity rises same fabric, same QC, better economics. Split runs and reorders keep your earned tier.

Gym and fashion blocks grade differently; this is the fashion baseline. Customizable to your tech pack.
A streetwear label wanted the cut-off muscle look of raw armholes, dropped and deep, but every sample they’d seen elsewhere looked like an accident rather than a design decision.
We set a controlled raw edge on a heavier fashion block, locked the armhole depth on the fit sample, and wash-tested it so the raw edge stayed clean rather than fraying past the line. Deliberate and repeatable across the run.
